Two die in fiery crash after attempted traffic stop on Texas highway

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) - Two people are dead after an attempted traffic stop by Wichita County Sheriff Deputy on U.S. 287 South and Jacksboro Hwy Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, at around 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, a Wichita County Sheriff Deputy observed a vehicle driving erratically before failing to stop and traveling at a high rate of speed east on Jacksboro Highway.

After turning north on East Scott, the vehicle struck a tree.

The vehicle caught fire after impact.

The female passenger was trapped in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver was transported to United Regional Health Care by ambulance and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The names of the victim’s weren’t immediately released.
