Head-on crash on rural Central Texas highway leaves 2 dead

HEIDENHEIMER, Texas (KWTX) Two people died Monday afternoon in a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 190 between Heidenheimer and Rogers in rural Bell County.

An eastbound Kia passenger car crossed the center-line and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet SUV at around 2:10 p.m. Monday, authorities said.

The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene.

Authorities identified the driver of the Kia as Alicea Shafer, 48, of Rogers.

The name of the driver of the SUV wasn’t immediately released.

A passenger in the SUV was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple in critical condition.

The highway was closed in the area of the crash between Pritchard Road and Five Wells Road and was expected to remain closed for several hours.
